To Obtain a Permit:
Minimum Information needed to complete an application for a HVAC changeout permit:

  1. Project Address
  2. Property owner's name
  3. Tax parcel # (may be obtained from the tax office, if not on file).
  4. Total contract cost.
  5. HVAC Contractor, phone #, Lic. #.
  6. Electrical Contractor, phone #, Lic. #.
  7. Full description of work to be done (type system, tons, etc.).

What is the Cost of the Permit?
Cost of each trade permit is $25.00, unless the cost exceeds $5000.00.

Can I Get the Permit the Same Day?
Generally, yes. Provided the information listed above is given and approved.

When Do I Need to Call for an Inspection?
You need to coordinate this with the inspector at the time the permit is issued.

Gas Line Installation

  1. Piping size and material Vol. VII.
  2. Piping below grade, buried 10 inches.
  3. Gas cock must be installed within 6 ft. of an appliance and in same room.
  4. Test pressure is 10 lbs. for 10 min.
  5. Must be installed per MFG instructions.
  6. Special restrictions for bathroom/bedroom.

Furnace Replacement

  1. Venting into chimney only if lined.
  2. Combustion air is required, high/low.
  3. Volume VII for sizing vents to chimney.
  4. Must be installed per MFG instructions.
  5. Gas equipment in garages; burner 18" min. from floor.

Water Heater & Gas Vent

  1. Must use Type "B" material for vent.
  2. Equipment in garages; burner 18" min. from floor.
  3. Combustion air is required, high/low.
  4. Min. 1" clearance from combustibles.
  5. Equipment clearances per MFG instructions.
