Washington entertainment--
slow-moving or fast-paced? what's your style?
It seems like there's always something to do, it may not be big city style full of Broadway plays, symphonic orchestras, or three-ring circuses...but it's entertainment and the style is Southern.
In the summer, kids play softball and baseball, and parents staff the concession stands, and umpire and coach the games. The Beaufort County Arts Council sponsors an Art Camp, the Washington Swim Club does swimming lessons, Brown Library hosts reading programs, the Salvation Army Camp takes place, and there's always the Summer Festival. This year the city's Fourth of July celebration went a step further and incorporated the Cajun Crawfish Bash into the festivities. A real Zydeco band played on the waterfront and the smell of fried fish filled the air, thanks to the Washington Area Historic Foundation. So, something's always going on... we here in Washington just make sure there's plenty of sweet tea, southern hospitality, and front porches with porch swings to go around.

School starts August 7, so the summer schedule is short this year. As soon as it's available, we'll post the local football schedules for Washington, Northside, Aurora, and Chocowinity High Schools.
